BHUTAN BIRD FESTIVAL – Summary

This festival will be held at Berti Eco-camp site under Trong Gewog in Zhemgang. Zhemgang is recognized as a potential area for bird watching because of large number of native bird species found there. During the festival different artworks are show cased. Besides this, guided birding tours and photography tours are also organized.

This three-day “Bhutan Bird Festival” in Zhemgang Dzongkhag (District),  which coincides with the Birth Anniversary of the Fourth King of Bhutan in Tingtibi Town. The festival has eleven enthralling events split into pre-festival, main events, and post-festival programs.

Zhemgang district is a popular birding destination. With the district’s boundary intersecting with three protected areas–Royal Manas National Park, Jigme Singey Wangchuk National Park, and Phrumshengla National Park. The district harbors more than 500 species of birds.

White-bellied Herons are found in the Mangde Chu (river) and its tributaries. All four species of hornbills found in Bhutan–Rufous-neck Hornbill, Great Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill and Pied Hornbill are sighted at different elevations. Beautiful Nuthatch is occasionally sighted in the upper regions of Zhemgang.

One can do birdwatching in one or various transects mentioned below depending on your time in the district.
